João Mário is a Portuguese professional footballer who plays as a forward for English club Manchester United and the Portugal national team. He was born on March 18, 1992, in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal.
Mário began his career at hometown club Sporting CP before moving to fellow Lisbon giants Benfica in 2007. He quickly established himself as one of the most talented young players in Europe, scoring prolifically for the club while also becoming known for his explosive pace and ability to create goalscoring opportunities from set-pieces.
In just two years at Benfica, Mário scored 46 goals in all competitions, including 18 in the Primeira Liga alone.
